Painted entirely by hand in Deruta, this parade plate depicts the profile of a young Renaissance knight, the male counterpart of the famous Bella Donna model.
In the 16th century these plates were prestigious and furnishing objects, donated to celebrate the courtly love and nobility of the great families of the time.
At the center of the medallion, the young nobleman is portrayed wearing typical 16th-century Italian attire: a geometrically decorated orange mazzocchio and heraldic robes in shades of blue and gold.
The outer rim features the traditional Deruta quartered pattern, with orange and blue scales and rich, Raphaelesque-inspired vegetal scrolls. Splendid on its own, it expresses its full potential when paired with the Bella Donna plate.
